Blueberry Picking 2011

 

 

So we made our annual trek up to Gainer Blueberry Farm this week with baby Avery and a few friends in tow.  You may remember this post from last year.  

Just wanted to share a few pictures from our adventure…we always have a fabulous time here and would encourage anyone close by to check it out.  GO NOW, season ends July 22nd.  It's so worth the drive.  And if you don't live close by, check around for a local farm near you.

Design Radar!!

Thought I'd let y'all in on a little secret.  I discovered these [above] at the HOME DEPOT over the weekend while browsing around in their garden center.  Yes, you heard me correctly…Who knew HD had stepped up their game ???  

I LOVE the shape of this container and the patina, what a great combo.  Sure beats boring ol' terracotta. Oh, and they were under $100!!  

Let me say, I've looked high and LOW for interesting, unique containers and these are certainly on my design R A D A R.  Seems this brand also has a few others I could envision in my backyard…Wish I had a few of each.  It's too difficult to pick just one.

Love the texture and the unexpected shapes.

 

How amazing would these look indoors or outdoors??

Florida Blueberry Season

 
Hope everyone had a  F A B  4th … we seriously enjoyed the low humidity and the gorgeous sunshine over the weekend.  Even took a field trip to Gainer Farms, a local blueberry farm in Chipley, to hand pick some fresh berries.  Would highly recommend doing this when given the opportunity.  It was such a fun experience.

At Gainer, there are 3 types of blueberries.  Climax was our favorite, had an interesting hint of peach flavor.  Brightwells were a close runner up.  Probably took us 40 minutes to pick 4 gallons, and did I mention it's only $8 per gallon.  DEAL of the week! ! ! !  

Oh, and one perk to hand picking … you get to sample the goods while you pick.  Y U M M M M M M !

So much fun!  We will most definitely return next year.  The owners were super nice and real down to earth.  The property was amazing, complete with rolling hills and ginormous shade trees.  The blueberry season in NW Florida runs from Memorial Day thru Independence Day.  In the meantime, we have 4 gallons of berries to E A T.  

Does anyone have a few good recipes they'd like to share? ? ?   :)

              

Watch Our Garden Grow

 

So the wildflower seeds were a B U S T.  It has been over two months and still nothing…not even a sprout!  I'm thinking they sold us duds:(

We're more into instant gratification, so we decided to take inspiration from a local herb + butterfly garden and recreate it in our own backyard.  Here's our progress with the plantings…We've got everything: peppermint, sage, butterfly bushes, salvia, bee balm, etc….  You name it we [probably] bought it!!  

I'll keep you posted on the outcome this time.  I feel we're at least [a little bit] ahead of the game this time, but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.

Weekend Warrior

 
Today was gorgeous!!!  A bit windy but beautiful blue skies + sunshine, so DP and I decided to plant some wildflower seeds.  Hopefully we'll have some activity in a few weeks.  Will keep you posted on our little garden project:)

Maybe One Day…

 
 

 I've been dreaming about having one of these in my backyard.   Wouldn't this make a nice place to retreat to for a little quiet time???  Heck, I would even hold my office inside one…would be so inspirational.  Love the turquoise attached sunroom below.  So chic!

Garden of Reflections

 Wanted to share with you photos I took of a gorgeous fountain I just had installed for an amazing house {equally amazing client} I just wrapped up.  Created by Allison Armour, and probably the most tranquil water feature I've ever seen.  

 

I added the green pebbles to give just a hint of color and bring the interior color palette outdoors.  This fountain was custom made of stainless steel and clear acrylic for my client's residence here in Blue Mountain Beach, FL.
