Blueberry Picking 2011

 

 

So we made our annual trek up to Gainer Blueberry Farm this week with baby Avery and a few friends in tow.  You may remember this post from last year.  

Just wanted to share a few pictures from our adventure…we always have a fabulous time here and would encourage anyone close by to check it out.  GO NOW, season ends July 22nd.  It's so worth the drive.  And if you don't live close by, check around for a local farm near you.

July is HERE !!

Is anyone else shocked that it is already JULY?!?!?!?!?  I can't believe how time has flown by this year.  Well, this we are headed to a couple of cookouts this weekend, and I was just thinking of what I wanted to bring to each.  So here are a few mouth-watering [favorite] recipes I just couldn't resist sharing.  Both are to DIE for … and I'm thinking I might double the quantities = one batch for the party, …and one batch for ME. :)

Florida Blueberry Season

 
Hope everyone had a  F A B  4th … we seriously enjoyed the low humidity and the gorgeous sunshine over the weekend.  Even took a field trip to Gainer Farms, a local blueberry farm in Chipley, to hand pick some fresh berries.  Would highly recommend doing this when given the opportunity.  It was such a fun experience.

At Gainer, there are 3 types of blueberries.  Climax was our favorite, had an interesting hint of peach flavor.  Brightwells were a close runner up.  Probably took us 40 minutes to pick 4 gallons, and did I mention it's only $8 per gallon.  DEAL of the week! ! ! !  

Oh, and one perk to hand picking … you get to sample the goods while you pick.  Y U M M M M M M !

So much fun!  We will most definitely return next year.  The owners were super nice and real down to earth.  The property was amazing, complete with rolling hills and ginormous shade trees.  The blueberry season in NW Florida runs from Memorial Day thru Independence Day.  In the meantime, we have 4 gallons of berries to E A T.  

Does anyone have a few good recipes they'd like to share? ? ?   :)

              

Nautical Treat

Recently bought this adorable seahorse tray for a friend…thought it would be perfect for her fabulous summer get-togethers.  She's quite the entertainer.  By the way, can you believe it is already the month of MAY???  Yikes, summer is right around the corner!  Check out more fab finds at Dabney Lee Home.

 On a recent trip to Charleston, I came across an adorable, cozy bakery named Baked, located on East Bay  Street.  At that present moment, my DP and I were only in search for a quick latte [to warm up] and a place to get out of the rain [since we had no umbrella and it had started to rain cats & dogs].  So I wasn't expecting the nearest coffee shop in site to be so darn cute.

   Upon opening the door, I was immediately intrigued by this wonderful wall treatment they had used, not to mention the color palette was so clean and crisp [my favorite].  It appeared they hung random strips of various crown molding & trim horizontally to create this beautiful, visual texture that was so intriguing and unexpected [must immediately try to recreate this on my next design project].

  So, if you ever happen by their Charleston location [not sure if the NYC location has this detail], check it out for yourself AND be sure to grab one of their yummy desserts and a coffee!!
